Tenor
Originally from Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, Olymar Salinas began his musical studies at the age of 8, starting with the violin. Coming from a family of musicians, where his mother is a pianist and singer, he was encouraged from a young age to pursue music, sharing musical experiences with his siblings—his older brother played drums and guitar, while his younger brother played double bass and guitar.
Realizing that his passion was music and with the support of his family, Olymar decided to study the violin for several years. At 18, he graduated with a Technical Professional Level in Music, specializing in Violin, thanks to his Cuban teacher, Rolando Bárbaro Porrúa Campos.
In 2017, Olymar met vocal coach, orchestra director, and pianist Rogelio Riojas-Nolasco during an Operatic Perfection Course. Maestro Riojas invited him to Mexico City for singing lessons; Olymar was thrilled and accepted the invitation. Upon discovering that opera involves not only singing but many arts simultaneously, creating an incredibly majestic work combined with the most beautiful music, he decided to study with Maestro Rogelio Riojas. From that moment on, his life changed completely, and Rogelio became his great mentor, leading him to win awards such as the "Revelación Juvenil" award at the Carlo Morelli Competition in the Palace of Fine Arts at the age of 20.
Olymar is currently a member of the Operísima México Opera Studio under the direction of Rogelio Riojas-Nolasco, where he has performed operatic roles such as Rodolfo in Giacomo Puccini's “La Bohème,” Alfredo and Gastón in Giuseppe Verdi's “La Traviata,” Nemorino in “L'elisir d'amore,” Duca di Mantova in Verdi's “Rigoletto,” Don Octavio in W. A. Mozart's “Don Giovanni,” Ferrando in Mozart’s “Così fan Tutte,” and Don José and Remendado in Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” in San Miguel de Allende.
His greatest challenges have included learning more languages, such as Italian and German, as well as the high demand and competition currently present in the opera world in Europe and the United States.
Thanks to Operísima México, Olymar has also participated in the Final Rounds in Vienna, Austria, for the Opera Studio of the Wiener Staatsoper, as well as in the Regional Rounds in Denver, Colorado, USA, for the Laffont Competition of the Metropolitan Opera of New York 2024. He received an invitation through Operísima México to sing the First Knight of the Grail in Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal” at the Teatro del Bicentenario in León, Guanajuato, where he also performed as a tenor soloist in Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Esperanza Azteca Orchestra as part of the Liber Festival at the Teatro del Bicentenario.
He participated in international competitions, including the ORFEO Lyric Singing Competition in Costa Rica, winning the “Melico Salazar” award as the Best Tenor of the Competition.
