Jesús Ibarra is a Mexican bass-baritone born in Mexico City. He began his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Toluca, State of Mexico, and later continued at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico. In 2003, he enrolled in the prestigious “Academy of Vocal Arts” in Philadelphia.
He has participated in various opera programs, including the “International Vocal Arts Institute” in Israel, “Epcaso” in Italy, “Lyric Opera Studio Weimar” in Germany, “Portland Opera,” and “Opera North” in the United States.
He won third place in the "Carlo Morelli" competition and the Ópera de Bellas Artes award in 2001, as well as a regional prize in the “Metropolitan Council Auditions,” second place in the “James Parkinson Competition,” and second place in the “IX International Lyric Singing Competition Trujillo,” along with the “Career Bridges” scholarship in New York.
Jesús has participated in opera and concert productions at major theaters in Mexico, including the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Auditorio Nacional, Teatro Degollado, Teatro Bicentenario, and Teatro Siglo XXI, among others, as well as opera recitals and national radio performances.
In his international career, Jesús Ibarra has performed in various cities across Europe, the United States, and South America. Some of his notable appearances include the 19th Zarzuela Gala at Carnegie Hall, "La Creación" with the OFUNAM Orchestra, Il Trovatore (Ferrando, Opera North), Halka (Zgemba, Sarasota Opera), and La Creación (OFUNAM). He portrayed the King in the opera Aida (El Paso Opera with the Palm Beach Opera Company).
He has performed roles in the operas Turandot, Fidelio, and La Traviata, Gualtiero (Opera de Bellas Artes), Masetto (Opera de Bellas Artes), "L'incoronazione di Poppea" in Asunción, Paraguay, Don Alfonso in "Così fan tutte" at the Rudolstadt Theater in Germany, and Taddeo in "La Italiana in Algeri" with the Kammeroper Hamburg. He was part of the national tour of “Elixir of Love” across Mexico with the “Cuéntame una Ópera” project, portraying the character Belcore. He also played the lead role in Don Giovanni (Ópera de Moncloa in Madrid) and Germont in “La Traviata” (Santiago de Compostela, Spain), performed Verdi's Requiem (Orquesta del Principado de Asturias) during their tour in Mexico, and participated in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Schaunard in "La Bohème" at the Teatro Bicentenario in León, Mexico, alongside tenor Ramón Vargas in 2019.
Recently, he took part in the production of Madama Butterfly alongside renowned soprano Maria Katzarava and maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda in Guadalajara, Mexico. In February 2024, he will perform the role of Don Alfonso in the production of "Così fan tutte" with Operísima México.
